Frequently Asked Questions

Our Services

At Ontario Therapy, we provide compassionate and personalized mental health care tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual. Our services include:

  • Individual Therapy: One-on-one sessions addressing issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and life transitions.

  • Couples Therapy: Helping partners navigate relationship challenges, improve communication, and strengthen their bond.

  • Family Therapy: Working with families to resolve conflicts, enhance understanding, and foster a supportive home environment.

  • Group Therapy: Facilitated sessions that bring together individuals facing similar issues, promoting shared experiences and mutual support.

We are committed to creating a safe and inclusive space for all clients, offering culturally sensitive and trauma-informed care. Our therapists utilize evidence-based approaches to support your journey toward healing and personal growth.

Our primary mode of delivery is virtual via phone, or online. However, we respect that some folks prefer to meet with their therapist face-to-face. With our headquarters in Newmarket, Ontario, please reach out to discuss how we can support you in-person. As always, if we are not able to support your needs, we will strive to offer alternate resources or referrals.

Excellent question! Simply reading a profile makes it hard to get to know someone—and sometimes you click with a therapist right away, while other times it takes a bit of time to build trust and connection.

At Ontario Therapy, we believe that the therapeutic relationship is at the heart of healing. That’s why we offer free 15-minute consultations—a chance to meet your therapist, ask questions, and get a sense of whether it feels like a good fit, with no pressure to commit.

We value honesty and transparency. If at any point we sense that another therapist or approach might be a better fit for your needs, we’ll talk openly with you about it and, when possible, offer thoughtful recommendations to other clinicians who may better support your journey.

Your comfort and well-being matter most. Finding the right therapist is a deeply personal process, and we’re here to support you in that—whether or not it ends up being with us.

Simply click the ‘book now’ tab and you will be directed to our online booking site.

Not sure what you’re looking for or have some questions? You can book a free 15-minute orientation, or are always welcome to reach us at our contacts listed below.

We do!

If you don’t see availability at a time or day that works for you, simply reach out!

Unfortunately not.

However, we are covered under most private insurance plans and our services can claimed as a taxable medical expense within Ontario.

Firstly, thank you for wanting to join the team!

We are always looking to collaborate with other clinicians and support qualifying RPs in their  supervision.

We invite you to reach out!

Absolutely. Please reach out to naomi@ontariotherapy.org to discuss potential opportunities.

Questions About Therapy

Great question! While some therapy modalities suggest a specific treatment length, at Ontario Therapy, we believe that healing and growth are lifelong processes. Therapy is not a one-time fix but rather an evolving journey, and we approach it with flexibility and care.

During your intake, we’ll discuss your goals, and from there, we may have an approximate timeline for treatment. However, therapy is not a “one-size-fits-all” process. We regularly re-evaluate your progress, and when you feel stabilized, we will discuss reducing the frequency of sessions or transitioning to periodic check-ins.

Ultimately, therapy is here for you when you need it. We believe that the therapeutic relationship should provide a secure attachment, and sometimes, people need to return to therapy at different points in their lives for various reasons. You are always welcome to come and go as needed, and we encourage you to reach out—whether it’s for continued support, new challenges, or a simple check-in.

Your healing process is unique to you, and we’ll walk alongside you for as long as you need.

Choosing the right treatment can feel overwhelming, and we understand that. At Ontario Therapy, we take a collaborative approach to help you find the treatment that best aligns with your unique needs, goals, and preferences. During your initial sessions, we’ll explore your concerns, discuss your goals, and talk through various therapeutic options.

Some modalities may be more suited to certain challenges, while others may offer a deeper connection, be more skills-focused or body-based, or more lasting change. Together, we’ll identify a plan that feels right and adapt it as you move forward.

Ultimately, the “right” treatment is the one that makes you feel seen, supported, and empowered to heal at your own pace.

Starting therapy can bring up a lot of different emotions, and that’s completely normal! You might feel a mix of relief, uncertainty, or even nervousness—these are all natural parts of the process. Therapy is a space where you can explore your feelings in a safe, non-judgmental environment, and that may feel both comforting and challenging at times.

At first, you might feel vulnerable as you begin to open up about your experiences, but rest assured, your therapist is here to support you every step of the way. As you move through the process, you may experience moments of clarity, insight, and growth, but it’s important to remember that healing is not always linear. Some sessions may feel light and empowering, while others might stir up deeper emotions or past experiences.

However you feel, know that we’re here to support you at every stage of your journey. Therapy is a space to honor your emotions, process your experiences, and begin building the tools you need for lasting change.

Therapy can be difficult because it asks you to confront feelings, memories, and experiences that you may have been avoiding or suppressing for a long time. Opening up about your struggles, exploring painful emotions, and working through challenges takes courage and vulnerability—and that can feel really hard. But that difficulty is part of the healing process.

Healing isn’t linear, and sometimes it gets harder before it gets easier. You might feel overwhelmed, anxious, or emotionally drained as you process and work through difficult topics. That’s normal and part of the journey. Therapy isn’t about “fixing” everything all at once, but rather creating a space where you can make sense of your emotions, challenge old patterns, and build new ways of coping.

Even though it feels hard, every step forward—no matter how small—is progress. Remember, it’s okay to feel uncomfortable, and it’s okay to take your time. You’re not alone in this, and your therapist is there to support you with compassion and understanding throughout the process.

The desire for quick healing is completely understandable, especially when we’re in pain or feeling stuck. However, it’s important to recognize that the goal of healing isn’t always about speed—it’s about finding lasting growth, peace, and understanding. Healing looks different for everyone, and while you might want to feel better quickly, true healing often takes time and patience.

Each person’s journey is unique, and the path to healing can involve exploring different parts of yourself—emotionally, mentally, and physically. Sometimes, the fastest way to heal is by allowing yourself to slow down, acknowledge your feelings, and work through them with care and compassion.

At Ontario Therapy, we support you in identifying your personal healing goals, whether they involve overcoming trauma, reducing stress, improving relationships, or simply finding balance. While we aim to make progress as efficient as possible, we also value the process and know that the most meaningful healing comes from understanding yourself more deeply and moving forward at your own pace.
