How Does if Feel to be a Therapist?

It is a feeling like no other to be able to celebrate alongside a long-term client as they move through to the good parts of life that they never imagined they’d get to. You’ve seen how hard they have worked. You know the obstacles they have overcome and you want to explode from excitement. You play it cool (mostly) but it impacts you at a personal level. It adds a pep to your step and reinforces that the work you’re doing matters. That people are resilient. That healing does happen.

This is more than just a job. This is carrying others people’s hearts along with your own. It’s painful on dark days and exhilarating on the good. Of course, at times we never see these moments. Many clients, for many reasons, step away when life stabilizes, and that’s okay. But whenever a therapist receives a text or email with a life update, please know that you made their day. I am so grateful, humbled and proud of the lives I have helped support and change. My professional journey is far from over but the gratitude I am feeling in this moment could feed the soul for many years to come.

Thank you to the many souls who have trusted, and continue to trust, me with their hearts and journeys. I am grateful.
